Lets Talk Diets
Let’s Talk Diets
First off…diets do work. Now here comes the hard part. They only work if you stick to them.
Some people( like myself) are just not diet oriented even though we could stand to loose a few or few dozen pounds. So let’s talk diets.
Pre- packaged, sent to you each month diets are great, mindless ways to loose weight. They are also expensive. If you’re going to invest three or four hundred dollars a month for weight loss you’re going to fall into one of two categories.
One…You’ll stick to the diet because you blew the rent money on it and want to get your money’s worth or/ Two…You’ll sneak goodies and snacks in addition to what you are allowed to eat and feel miserable for throwing away so much money. This will make you guilt ridden and you’ll eat a whole chocolate cake to console yourself.
If you’re convinced that a prepackaged diet is the only way you can loose the weight, then get a low cost preview first. Most auction sites will have, still-in-the box diet foods from one or more popular diets. Many will offer a case lot with enough meals and snacks to eat for a week or more, at a quarter of what you would pay to the company.
You can also buy the books, pamphlets, charts and calculators to get you started at the same place.
A word of warning. Do your homework. Go to the website of the diet you are interested in and join. It’s free just to be a member. Look through the ala carte items they have for sale and make a list of the prices. You don’t want to overpay for an item then have to pay shipping as well. Also make certain that whatever you purchase has expiration dates and is the type of diet you wish to try.
Example…Nutri-system and Jenny Craig, actually have about five or six different plans. If you want to try the Nutrish plan then be sure you don’t purchase items from the Advanced plan. The taste is quite different between the variety of plans.
Once you spend the hundred or thereabouts for a month’s worth of food. Get on the diet. If you stick to it, great. You can either invest in a monthly delivery program or buy more on the internet.I actually like this option since you can pick the foods you liked and get more of that particular item.
If you fail to loose or can’t stand the menu, you aren’t out much and can try something else.
There are a million diets a day published in magazines and online. Always with a photo of someone who lost a hundred pounds and looks like a super star. I don’t know about you but even skinny I’m not going to look that good.
The problem with 90 percent of these diets is that they are depravation diets. You give up all the things you like, eat the same old foods every day and starve most of the time. Not a diet that I will last more than a day or two on even if I’m planning to leave my husband for a drop-dead-gorgeous younger guy. ( That’s my fairy tale you get your own.)
I like diets where you can buy the food at the local grocery store. They have so many reasonably priced meals at the market that actually have the points , fat or other allowances right on the package. Not only that, many of the foods will tell you if they can be used with one diet or another as a substitute. I can buy a starter set, including calculator, at an online auction site for say …Weight Watchers. That means I don’t have to join and pay a monthly fee that I really can’t afford.
This doesn’t work for everyone. If you need a group or individual support then by all means pay the nominal fee and join the site. I happen to be totally antisocial and have basic foot-in-mouth disease so I tend to stay away from any organization that requires human contact.
The nice thing about some of the tried and true diets is that you can have candy, and ice cream. For example. If I’m on Weight Watchers- and am allowed twenty five points a day- and am in a blue funk- I can actually eat ten ( Skinny Cow )ice cream sandwiches in one day and not go over my point allowance. I’m not admitting to having done anything of the sort you understand. I’m just saying if the need arose I could do it.
No willpower? Try the buddy system. Nothing motivates you faster than your friend getting skinny before you do.
In the end skinny may not be best for you. Trends come and go. If you’re happy in your own skin and your weight doesn’t affect your health then just be happy. That’s healthier than just about anything.
