Herbal Remedies And Supplements-Ancient Cures For Modern Day Maladies

They say that everything a person needs in life, including the cures to his injuries and illnesses, can be found in nature. This is the philosophy behind botanical medicine and the continuing popularity of herbal remedies and herbal supplements in many cultures.

It is a common misconception that herbal remedies and herbal supplements originated from China. Such a misconception may be brought about by 2 facts: a) that China is one of the countries in the world that has preserved its culture for so many centuries; and b) that China is the number one exporter of herbal remedies and herbal supplements today.

The reality of the matter is this: botanical medicine has been practiced since the dawn of human civilization. 5,000 years prior to the Sumerians, the first known civilization which established itself in Mesopotamia, now Iraq, plants such as laurel and thyme were being used to cure wounds and bone fractures. In 4,000 BC, during the time of the Ancient Egyptians, garlic was already being used as a herbal supplement for a variety of internal diseases.

But it was the Chinese who compiled the medical usages of a variety of herbs into one compendium, the Shennong Bencao Jing, which to this very day serves as the bible for botanists and medical practitioners trying to catalogue herbal remedies and herbal supplements.

How botanical medicine has survived history where other facets of various cultures have fallen into obscurity is a testament to the efficiency of these herbal remedies and herbal supplements as solutions to the illnesses, diseases and injuries that have plagued mankind.

After all, why would they still remain popular to this very day if they didn’t work, right?

If these botanical cures are merely products of myths and legends, they should’ve been exposed for their heresy as early as many centuries ago. But they still exist and they are still widely regarded as effective counter-agents to a multitude of medical conditions.

What has worked for herbal remedies and herbal supplements is the fact that they are all organic. They do not contain any synthetic ingredients that particular people may adversely react to. Everything is garnered from nature’s bounties, and the chances of side effects, usually in the form of allergic triggers, are minimal.

It’s hard to believe that there is a science dedicated to herbal remedies and herbal supplements as they have always been categorized as alternative health solutions that aren’t medically accepted.

But there is, indeed, a science devoted to these botanical cures, and it is a science as old as recorded time itself.
